This album will reel you in slowly but surely. Charmaine Phua of Power 98 tells us why

Daft Punk is back. The long awaited album from the helmet-donning French duo, Random Access Memories, veers away from their usual EDM sounds and brings out the musicality of the 1970s disco era with soft rock and progressive pop thrown in.
After an eight-year wait for this fourth album, this brave new “chill out-soul” sound definitely comes as a surprise to Daft Punk fans.
Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, the men behind the sleek masks, spared no expense for this album, recording live in the best studios, working with top notch musicians like Nile Rodgers and Pharrell Williams, and even threw in choirs and orchestras.
The basic idea of the album, according to Bangalter, is to “draw a parallel between the brain and the hard drive – the random way that memories are stored”, and they demonstrate that with the variety of sounds on one album.
The first single, Get Lucky, features the smooth vocals of Pharrell Williams, and it quickly won over the audience with its memorable hook and catchy groove. It hit #1 on the UK Singles Chart, and also was ranked top ten in the music charts in over 28 countries. It is also the most streamed new song on Spotify.
I didn’t think much of it when I first heard it but, trust me, give it a couple of listens and that song pulls you in like quicksand.
Other tracks include Lose Yourself To Dance which, oddly, is tough to actually dance to, but it has a groove that may get you to the beat. Doin It Right is another track that will grow on you, while Give Life Back To Music plays up the old-school vibe of the 1970s.
The success of Random Access Memories is undeniable – it debuted at number one in 22 countries worldwide, including the Billboard 200. You’ll definitely be tapping your foot to the beats.
