If you've already embarked on the Golden Route, also known as the old Tōkaidō road from Tokyo to Kyoto, you might want to consider exploring Ehime the next time you visit Japan.

While less bustling than its counterparts, the prefecture, which literally means "lovely princess" in Japanese, is rich with history, culture, and the traditional spirit of hospitality. Plus, its warm and mild climate makes it a breeze to travel anytime of the year.

6. Take home local souvenirs

Apart from precious memories, visitors can also take home a plethora of Ehime specialities. As Japan’s No.1 producer of mandarin oranges, Ehime offers products like juice, liqueur and jelly, made from various types of quality mandarin oranges.

Another popular snack is the Taruto, a sponge cake roll made with moist sponge cake and citron flavoured sweet bean paste.

For something slightly more unusual, go for locally made towels, produced in Japan’s largest factory for towels. Commonly sold at departmental stores, each one is exceptionally soft and fluffy.
