3. First Man
Academy Award-winning director Damien Chazelle (La La Land, Whiplash) returns with his La La Land lead, Ryan Gosling, to tell the story of NASA’s historic mission to the moon, from the perspective of Neil Armstrong. Set between the years of 1961 and 1969, the biopic zooms in on the personal life of the first man to walk on the moon, the man who’s dealing with the illness of his children at home with his wife Jan (Claire Foy). With this dark tone, the movie also shines light on the terror Armstrong felt towards the dangerous mission. Both thrilling and poignant, the biopic is a timely reimagination of the very real challenges that led up to Armstrong’s moon walk, as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the historic event next year.
