Grilled, roasted or sous vide — have your steak and eat it too

There are times when nothing but a well-marbled slab of meat that’s been grilled to perfection will suffice.
To help you satisfy your cravings, here are five restaurants worth every meat lover’s while.

1. Shelter in the Woods — European Rotisserie
This traditional European rotisserie offers an extensive menu inclusive of Black Angus prime rib, roasted chicken and more. All the meats are cooked in a traditional gas-flame rotisserie and roasted upon order.
Highlights include the golden and succulent Rotisserie Suckling Pig (from $35) served with crackling and chunks of sweet rotisserie-grilled pineapples. If you’re feeling extra indulgent, order the Rotisserie Cote de Boeuf (rib steak with bone attached, approx. 1kg, $158). It features a hefty 200-plus-day grain-fed Australian Black Angus Stockyard prime rib on the bone alongside roasted baby potatoes, watercress and roasted bone marrow.

The Chop House’s extensive menu will satiate meat lovers with steaks such as the premium USDA Prime Grain Fed Rib Eye.
2. The Chop House — Affordable, Quality Steak
Are you looking for quality steak that won’t burn a hole in your pocket? The Chop House, brought to you by the same team behind the acclaimed Wooloomooloo Steakhouse, is a gastro-bar that offers classic steakhouse fare, in hearty portions.
The extensive menu here will satiate meat lovers with steaks such as the premium USDA Prime Grain Fed Rib Eye ($38), seafood selections such as Pan Fried Barramundi ($26) and sharing platters like the Mixed Grill Platter ($68). The delectable side dishes stand out on their own, especially the aromatic and chunky Truffle Potato Salad ($7) as well as the Creamy Spinach ($5).

3. Shashlik — Hearty Russian Fare
Thrust into the spotlight ever since the news of its closure last year, Shashlik restaurant has reopened its doors after being revived by its second-generation owners. Thankfully, the dishes at this Russian eatery are as delightful as before.
The Borshch soup ($7) is savoury and rich, with tender cubes of beef shank and a drizzle of sour cream. Another must-try is its namesake, the Shashlik of Beef ($32) — skewers of lean beef tenderloin presented on an old-school wooden trolley and served on a sizzling hot plate, .
Don’t be alarmed if it arrives slightly less cooked — the meat will eventually be nicely seared on the hot plate.

Head to 5th Quarter for quality meat on the grill, with elements of smoking, curing and pickling.
4. 5th Quarter — Cured Meats on Grill
5th Quarter is a contemporary grill helmed by award-winning chef Drew Nocente, whose Italian-Australian culinary background influences much of the menu. Think traditional meat curing methods and quality produce on the grill, with elements of smoking, curing and pickling.
Noteworthy dishes include the Pork Collar with Radishes & Praline (S$32), featuring pork collar that has been brined for 24 hours and then sous vide, as well as the Short Rib with Carrot & Pomegranate (S$36), where short ribs are smoked for eight hours before a 48-hour sous vide treatment.

5. Naughty Nuri’s — Succulent Ribs & Indonesian Fare
Save those air tickets; Bali’s iconic barbecued ribs restaurant, Naughty Nuri’s, has now opened a Singaporean outlet at Capitol Piazza. Diners can expect the familiar, laid-back vibes of the warung (small family-owned restaurant) with dishes such as succulent barbecued ribs, refined Indonesian and Western fare, as well as the very martinis that Chef Anthony Bourdain raved about.
Nuri’s signature Barbecue Pork Ribs ($18.90) doesn’t disappoint. Marinated in a sticky-sweet home-blend sauce, the meat is fall-off-the-bone tender and best paired with the home-made kecap manis chilli sauce for an extra kick. Some new items have a Western spin, like the juicy and meaty Wagyu Steak ($23.40).
