Hong Kong-style cha chaan tengs aren’t new in Singapore, but Keming Bing Sat (克茗冰室) takes it up to a new level!
With over 140 outlets in China and the “Best-Selling Char Siew Rice in China” title, this popular tea room has finally opened its first overseas outpost. And yes, there’s a long queue every day!
So of course, we had to check it out for ourselves—and the verdict? Definitely worth a try. The dishes stay true to tradition, but with a creative twist that makes you feel like you’re dining right in Hong Kong. Now, here are the must-orders you shouldn’t miss.
Char Siew Rice (黯然销魂饭), S$10.90++
Let’s start with the headliner. Their Char Siew Rice, also known as 黯然销魂饭, is clearly meant to be the pride of the menu, and it delivers in most areas. The char siew itself is sliced thick, tender, and beautifully caramelised, carrying a hint of smokiness. The highlight is undoubtedly the sauce: rich, slightly sweet, complex.
We’re told it’s made from 23 ingredients, and while we didn’t count, it certainly has depth. The rice, though fragrant, was a touch dry. Still, this dish is worth returning to, especially for roast meat fans.
Stephen Chow’s Favourite Instant Noodles (星爷至爱公仔面), S$10.90++
A playful name aside, this was a satisfying bowl of comfort. Think springy instant noodles topped with a combination of luncheon meat, sunny-side-up egg, and sausage slices — simple but nostalgic.
It’s not a culinary marvel, but if you grew up watching Stephen Chow movies or eating midnight suppers like this, it hits all the right notes.
Heavenly Four Treasures Rice (销魂四宝饭), S$11.90++
This dish is essentially the char siew rice’s bigger, bolder sibling. It comes loaded with char siew, soy chicken, luncheon meat, and a fried egg — all in one bowl. It’s indulgent, filling, and ideal for the indecisive. Each component was well-executed, and the soy chicken really stands out.
A great option if you want variety in every bite.
Happiness Lava Egg Waffles (快乐爆浆鸡蛋仔) , S$3.80++/2 pcs or S$6.90++/4 pcs
We were too full, so we only ordered two, but they totally surprised us.
The egg waffles were perfectly crispy on the outside, soft and slightly chewy inside—just like the classic Hong Kong style. The cheese filling added a creamy, savoury touch that took it to the next level.
Not too greasy, and seriously addictive. The little smiley faces on the waffles added an extra dose of cuteness.
We instantly regretted not ordering four!
Lava Ovaltine Toast (泥石流爆奶华), S$7.90++
If you’re the sort who finds Milo dinosaur too tame, this is your dessert.
The thick-cut toast is crisp outside and pillowy inside, piled high with whipped cream, milk, and Ovaltine powder, then finished with Oreo crumble.
It’s decadent to the point of ridiculous, but if you’ve got a sweet tooth, this is your moment.
Beverages
We tried the Signature Iced Lemon Tea (小熊冻柠茶) and the Little Bear Iced Hong Kong Milk Tea (小熊冰冰港式奶茶), both priced at S$4.90++.
The lemon tea was bold, citrusy, and super refreshing, while the milk tea wasn’t just cute—it also delivered that rich, authentic Hong Kong-style flavour.
And of course, the frozen bear-shaped ice cubes are pure Instagram bait—and sure to be a hit with the little ones!
Keming Bing Sat isn’t just about the branding; the food really delivers.
Brimming with bold flavours and comforting nostalgia, the menu captures the true essence of a Hong Kong cha chaan teng. Hearty, satisfying, and full of playful charm—it’s comfort food done right.
