With the Dragon Boat Festival, or Duan Wu Festival, nearly upon us (it's falling on the 7th of June this year), we're once again faced with a whole host of dumpling selections to choose from! Whether you love your glutinous rice dumplings savoury or sweet; traditional or creative; filled with abalone, scallop, or even otah, or oozing a delectable creamy custard - there's even a Mao Shan Wang dumpling, as well as healthier options, and a halal option this year - we've got just the list for you! Read on for our picks of the Rice Dumpling Festival - we mean, Duan Wu Festival, this year.

King of Dumplings Set (S$108), Resorts World Sentosa

Savour an array of innovative and delectable haute cuisine rice dumplings with Resorts World Sentosa (RWS)’s signature five-in-one Dumpling Feast – consisting of dumplings from five celebrity chef restaurants at RWS: Feng Shui Inn, Forest森, Tangerine, Syun and Osia Steak and Seafood Grill.

Enjoy the Peranakan-inspired Braised Pork Belly Chestnut Rice Dumpling created by local celebrity chef Sam Leong and his culinary team at Forest森; where blue pea flower-tinged glutinous rice is stir-fried with house-made X.O. sauce and curry powder, before being stuffed with slow-braised pork belly, mushrooms and chestnuts.

Feng Shui Inn’s Hong Kong Fisherman Abalone and Chicken Rice Dumpling draws inspiration from Hong Kong, and is a wonderfully luxe delight: it contains three whole 10-head abalone from Australia, roasted salted chicken breast with conpoy, roasted pork, soy beans, salted egg and roasted chestnuts. Plus, it’s served with fermented soya sauce that adds a depth of flavour!

Osia Steak and Seafood Grill’s rice dumpling offers a modern interpretation of the classic pork dumpling – featuring a tender, juicy cut of Iberico Pork Pluma. The Lemongrass-Scented Iberico Pork Mushroom Rice Dumpling is stuffed with Iberico pork seasoned with spiced lemongrass soy sauce, Iberico chorizo and braised mushrooms.

Meanwhile, you’ll find Japanese influences with Syun‘s gourmet Unagi Rice Dumpling. Featuring grilled Japanese unagi, sticky rice, Shitake mushrooms and sakura-ebi seasoned with shiro goma and refreshing citrusy sanshio kinome; it’s a creative fusion of Japanese and Chinese culinary cultures!

If you’re vegetarian, Tangerine’s Kao Niew Ping is perfect for you: a creative interpretation of the traditional Thai street dessert by Singapore’s first celebrity chef helmed farm-to-table restaurant, with purple sweet potatoes and coconut milk-infused Thai sticky rice wrapped in banana leaf and grilled, offering the perfect sweet ending to this luxurious dumpling feast.
