No one does mystery thrillers quite like the Koreans. With The Walking Dead’s Steven Yuen in his first leading Korean film role, the latest film by Korean auteur Lee Chang-dong has been making headlines even before it won over critics at the Cannes Film Festival. Based loosely on Haruki Murakami’s short story “Barn Burning,” Burning follows Jongsu (Yoo Ah-in), a deliveryman leading an unexceptional life until one day when he encounters Haemi (Jeon Jong-seo), who claims they were childhood acquaintances. Their reconnection is cut short when Haemi leaves on a trip to Africa and returns with Ben (Yuen), a rich and worldly man who makes Jongsu wary. Then, one evening, Ben confides in Jongsu about his unusual hobby.
