4. A Little Reunion （小欢喜）

The Beijing production – A Litte Reunion (小欢喜) was adapted from Lu Xinggong’s novel. As you watch the show, you will realize A Little Reunion can be quite relatable to Singaporeans as parents prepare their kids for PSLE and GCE O level examinations.

Synopsis

A story told from the perspective of married couple Fang Yuan and Tong Wen Jie that follows the lives of the Fang, Ji and Qiao family whose kids are in their third year of high school. It focuses on China’s notorious college entrance exam, the “gao kao.”

Buoyed by the belief that getting into the right school dictates one’s future, the three families gear up for the college examinations. Tensions rise between Tong Wen Jie and her free-spirited son Fang Yi Fan over his grades with her husband Fang Yuan often acting as the referee.

After refusing her ex-husband Qiao Wei Dong’s attempts to invade their lives, single mom Song Qian becomes overprotective towards her daughter Qiao Ying Zi. Meanwhile, Ji Yang Yang finds it hard to adjust when his father Ji Sheng Li and mother Liu Jing suddenly want to become involved after leaving him under the care of his uncle Liu Zheng. Although father and son are civil, their relationship is not great. It is these trials that allow family members to grow through their love for each other.
