We checked out Alibaba’s Taobao Maker Festival in Hangzhou and met these dynamic, young entrepreneurs
Love online shopping? You’re likely to be familiar with Taobao, China’s biggest consumer-to-consumer e-commerce site.
Just this month, Alibaba Group launched its second Taobao Maker Festival to celebrate the “maker spirit” of these young entrepreneurs.
We were fortunate enough to meet some of the 108 merchants from the commerce-oriented social platform.
Here are some must-buys we’ve sussed out:
1. Dad’s Carpenter Hut (爸爸的木匠小屋)
Affectionately named ‘Dad’s Carpenter Hut’, this shop is a homage to Zheng’s father and his craftsmanship. In a bid to produce a documentary of the shop’s namesake, the duo started to sell unique wood creations ranging from cutlery to decor pieces like the balloon house from the Pixar movie UP. Each item is painstakingly made by hand, resulting in truly one-of-a-kind pieces that will touch your heart.
