7. Rediscover Singapore’s Chinese heritage at Chinatown’s Mid-Autumn Festival

You can’t go wrong with celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival at Chinatown. The neighbourhood sees thousands of visitors every Mid-Autumn season, lighting up the atmosphere with lanterns and festive spirit. This year, from 8 September to 8 October, Chinatown’s annual event takes you back to the old days of the historic Chinese district. The much-anticipated official Street Light-Up gets a retro theme, lining the streets of Chinatown with colourful lanterns that were popular in 50s and 60s Singapore, as well as large-scale installations that remember the lives of early Chinese immigrants. There will be over 200 street stalls selling delectable treats, but save some room in your stomach for the special Cantonese dishes prepared for the event. For two nights only, on 21 and 22 September, savour long-forgotten and rare Cantonese dishes such as Gold Coin Chicken and Prawn Toast! Filled with nostalgia and local culture, Chinatown’s Mid-Autumn festival is surely going to be one to remember.
