When: 28-30 Jul

If you can’t make it for the Fuji Rock Festival, this is your alternative; and it’s not too shabby of an option. Organised by music-television giant Mnet, the Jisan Valley Rock Music & Arts Festival is likened to the Coachella of Korea.

Held in the Jisan Forest Resort, the festival brings in big indie acts from around South Korea and the world. This year’s headliners include Sigur Rós, Lorde and Gorillaz.

The festival is held annually on the last weekend of July and possibly rivals Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival as one of Asia’s top-ranking music festivals. It’s a great event for a weekend in the mountains, rocking out to major acts while discovering some upcoming indie talents to follow.

In between acts, you’ll find plenty of activities to chill out with. Previous years have seen firework displays, inflatable slides and pools with floating trampolines.

Jisan is also a wonderland of both Korean and Western street food; think offerings like mandu, kimbab, kebab, hot dogs and pizza. Plus, refreshing booze is served by the bucket.

Three-day tickets are now going for 210,000 won (about $260).
