The centrepiece of summer, Coachella (along with its quirky fashion sentiments) may have come and gone, but the carnival spirit never truly leaves.
For those experiencing festival envy, here are five anticipated events happening much closer to home.

2. Fuji Rock Festival, Niigata, Japan
When: 28-30 Jul
Often considered the most explosive music festival in Japan, and even the whole of Asia, the Fuji Rock Festival is known for bringing in big names. This year’s line-up features acts like The XX, Björk and Lorde.
The festival is held at the Naeba Ski Resort in Niigata, where attendees can stay at a dedicated campsite right by the festival grounds.
Alternatively, since you’re in the mountains of Japan, you may want to experience living in one of the traditional Japanese inns or bathhouses located nearby.
If you’re thinking of heading here, do note that the festival comes with a strict set of rules and regulations, such as no umbrellas allowed and an 11pm curfew for attendees under the age of 18 years.
Tickets range from 17,000 yen (about $211.60) for a one-day ticket to 43000 yen for a three-day ticket.
