Nobody can deny this – ZoukOut is the single most iconic clubbing event in Singapore. Nothing else comes close
With that, we look at some five interesting facts about our favourite music festival:
#1 In 2013, ZoukOut saw its largest turnout of 41,000 in attendance over 2 nights, with numbers increasing every year since the first installation in 2000 that had a mere 9,000 in attendance.
For those who cannot visualize that staggering number, go back and recall the turnout for the Hello Kitty Run (we know you went!) and multiply that by 2.5. No we are not kidding – never has Siloso Beach seen a bigger crowd.
Will ZoukOut be the next predecessor of this impressive record?
#2 ZoukOut has seen a large increase in visitors from Australia, India and Europe in the past few years.
This is the single most powerful show of ZoukOut’s power. It has evolved into an event so magnetic that it brings people all over the world to fly in and participate. We are always flying to Taiwan and Europe for getaways – and now we have role reversals!
#3 Musical genres at ZoukOut include House, Techno, Trance, Electro, Alternative/Indie-Electronic, Hip-Hop and of course the inimitable Mambo Jambo, the iconic clubbing night, playing the classic anthems from the 80’s to rocking present-day tunes.
Mambo Jambo will always have a special place in my heart. No matter how big Zouk becomes, they make it a note to never forget their roots. And for good measure too – Mambo Jambo has to be one of the reasons why Zouk is Singapore’s reigning club powerhouse.
#4 Past big names to grace the decks and stages include Avicii, Above & Beyond, Paul van Dyk,
2ManyDJS, Armin van Buuren, Carl Cox, Masters at Work, Gilles Peterson, Richie Hawtin, Sven Väth,
David Guetta, Tiësto and many, many more making ZoukOut the largest, most notable outdoor dance
and music festival in South East Asia.
Let me just say this – David Guetta, Avicii and Tiesto?! I wonder why I wasn’t there for their sets but it is not too late to register now. I heard Skrillex is in the line-up this year. Oh believe me, he was my jam for the entirety of 2011 to 2012 – I have to be there.
#5 ZoukOut 2004 and 2007 won the Singapore Tourist Board’s “Best Leisure Event Experience” award along with Zouk winning the “Best Nightspot Experience” award 9 times.
So many clubs have came to challenge this giant and left defeated. There is Supperclub, Mink, Helipad – what have we. All of them came with an intention – to be a competitor worthy of Zouk and all of them left with one realization – Zouk is invincible.
