6. Journey West The Crimson Boy

Paper Monkey Theatre and the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre have collaborated to present a fresh and captivating performance titled “Journey West: The Crimson Boy” this November. This highly anticipated puppet show is set to enhance our appreciation and interest in exploring the classic “Journey to the West.”

In this instalment, Tripitaka’s team encounters the formidable Crimson Boy, who is the son of the Bull Demon King and Princess Iron Fan. Despite being 300 years old, he possesses the power of the True Samadhi Fire and remarkable strength. He captures Tripitaka with the intention of offering the monk’s flesh to his parents to prevent their divorce, believing he is the root cause of their discord. Sun Wukong is initially defeated but subsequently seeks aid from the Goddess of Mercy, who pardons Crimson Boy and takes him as her disciple. As a result, the demon releases Tripitaka, allowing the group to resume their westward journey in pursuit of the holy scriptures.
