8. The White Snake Legend
Once lotus flowers were blessed by Buddha, Bai Suzhen (a white snake) and Xu Xian (a human) were destined to meet. Though past lives faded, Bai Suzhen’s love burned bright. With her companion Xiao Qing, she found Xu Xian by West Lake. But their happiness was opposed by a disapproving monk. Tragedy struck when Xu Xian died from shock upon learning Bai Suzhen’s true form. Undeterred, she braved perilous journeys to revive him, even flooding a temple. Witnessing her devotion, Xu Xian’s love returned. Reunited, they defied fate, their love echoing for a thousand years.
