5. Along With The Gods: The Last 49 Days
Last year, the Korean fantasy film “Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds” smashed box office records across Asia. Based on a popular web comic by Joo Ho-min, the film blends fantastical elements of the afterlife with traditional Korean mythology through the use of stunning special effects. The epic story continues in the sequel, which looks set to be another hit. We meet the three grim reapers (played by Ha Jung-woo, Joo Ji-hoon and Kim Hyang-gi) again, but while in the first film, they took a backseat to the soul they were guiding into the afterlife, the guardians too undergo trials in the underworld to obtain their reincarnations this time. During their journey, they meet a mysterious God of House (Ma Dong-seok), who slowly recovers the grim reapers’ forgotten memories of their tragic time on Earth more than a thousand years ago. As the characters travel between different worlds and times, dark secrets are revealed that could change everything they know.
