Be one of the first in Asia to catch the new episodes of HBO’s acclaimed series Game of Thrones – Season 5 is upon us!
Following the flurry of teasers, red carpet affairs and interviews spreading across the Internet, the hype for Game of Thrones Season 5 is at an all-time high.
Never fear, the continuation draws near. The highly-anticipated new season is returning for ten heart-stopping episodes, premiering on Monday, Apr 13 at 9am, with a primetime encore at 9pm on the same day, exclusively on HBO.
Of Secrets and Struggles
Based on the bestselling fantasy book series by George RR Martin, the hit series tells an epic tale of treachery and nobility set on the mythical continent of Westeros, where only the lust for power is eternal.
Season 5 will follow Jon Snow in his struggle to balance the demands of the Night’s Watch with those of the newly-arrived Stannis Baratheon, who styles himself the rightful king of Westeros.
Meanwhile, Cersei scrambles to hold on to power in King’s Landing amidst the Tyrells and the rise of a religious group led by High Sparrow, while Tyrion uncovers news of a conspiracy.
Across the Narrow Sea, Arya seeks an old friend and a fugitive Tyrion finds a new cause. And as danger mounts in Meereen, Daenerys finds that her tenuous hold on the city requires hard sacrifices.
Gripping Suspense
Episode 42: “The House of Black and White”, which premieres on Monday Apr 20, at 9am, looks set to be especially riveting. Cersei’s daughter is in peril in Dorne, as Ellaria Sand thirsts for revenge following Oberyn’s demise.
Meanwhile, a series of temptations are presented to Jon and Daenerys against their better judgement.
Favourites Back with New Stars
Game of Thrones fans will be elated to see several returning regulars this season. These include Emmy and Golden Globe winner Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister, Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister, Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, Kit Harington as Jon Snow, and Maisie Williams as Arya Stark.
But look out also for the new faces joining the fight in Season 5, including Jonathan Pryce (the High Sparrow), Alexander Siddig (Doran Martell), DeObia Oparei (Areo Hotah) and Keisha Castle-Hughes (Obara Sand), known for Whale Rider and The Nativity Story.
The Best Series Ever
Among the critical acclaim that the Game of Thrones series has received, the Los Angeles Times has praised it as “the best television show ever”, adding that “no other series comes close”. The Hollywood Reporter writes, “The consistency of excellence in Game of Thrones is truly something to behold.”
In August last year, the series was recipient of a host of Emmy Awards, including for Outstanding Special and Visual Effects and Outstanding Costumes for a Series.
We have no doubt that Season 5 of Game of Thrones will top all that but just how will it do so? We can’t wait to find out.
Game of Thrones Season 5 premieres Apr 13 at 9am on HBO, StarHub TV Ch. 601. You can also catch the past season of Game of Thrones on HBO On Demand (StarHub TV Ch. 602).
