When teenage Jared (Lucas Hedges) realises that he is gay, he is terrified. Brought up in a small conservative Christian town, and the son of a Baptist pastor, Jared struggles to have his parents and community accept who he is. His parents (played by Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe) push him to attend a gay conversion therapy camp, where Jared encounters even more conflicts and starts to question whether his desires are truly not “normal.” This story about self-acceptance, accepting others, and faith is a dark but important and powerful one. It also stars popular singer and YouTuber Troye Sivan as one of Jared’s camp mates.
The movie will be showing at The Projector on 3, 4 and 5 April.
