What it’s about: This series is the latest adaptation of the classic Canadian children’s book by L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables, follows young orphan Anne Shirley as she comes of age in a new home with her new adoptive parents. Her wild and imaginative personality does not immediately find acceptance in the rather conservative small town of Avonlea. Nevertheless, Anne stays true to her optimistic and kind spirit, which helps her make several friends. Together, they navigate the mysteries of puberty, love, gender roles, education, and more.

Why you should watch: Even if you’ve read the original book and seen the countless movie and TV adaptations of it, you’ll still find lots of new things to love about Anne With An E. From the diverse representation to the stunning natural cinematography and costumes, it’s an uplifting period drama for modern audiences. As Anne of Green Gables turns 110 this year, this Netflix adaptation shows just how timeless the story’s underlying themes of love, acceptance and imagination still are today.

Seasons One and Two are currently available on Netflix, while Season Three is in production.
