5. Cave Rescue of the Thai Soccer Team
On 23 June 2017, a Thai boys soccer team, led by their coach, went hiking in one of Chiang Rai’s caves. Due to heavy monsoon rain and seasonal flooding, they found themselves trapped after their exit got cut off by the rising waters. Thai Navy SEALs ultimately freed all team members, and their coach, after 18 days and multiple rescue missions.
