6. The National Museum of Singapore Digital Initiatives – Zoom into History

With video conferencing becoming an increasingly familiar way in which people gather, connect and interact with others, our artefacts have also decided to join the (video) conversation! The museum brings you Zoom into History, a digital initiative that is hosted on the Zoom platform.

The programme takes participants back in time, offering a new and engaging way to learn about Singapore’s history and the National Collection through the eyes of artefacts that have ‘witnessed’ history first-hand. Lesser-known stories of each era will be told through a National brand rice cooker, the mace of the City of Singapore, a cap belonging to a female soldier named Rasamma, a night-soil bucket, a Spanish dollar, the Singapore Stone and an Orang Laut basket trap (bubu).

The experiences of the artefacts trace Singapore’s larger history, providing a holistic interplay of personal experiences and key historical periods. Each session will explore a different era in Singapore’s history, from pre-Colonial times to the present.

Participants will have the opportunity to interact and “chat” with the artefacts during the session, giving them an opportunity to ‘zoom in’ for a closer look into the artefacts’ lives in real time.
