6. Watch and immerse yourself in a thought-provoking performance piece

A man with a shaved head. A rock. Silence. No, we are not talking about Dwayne Johnson’s new attempt at a movie, but Topographies – a solo exhibition, publication and performance piece by ceramicist and performance artist Jason Lim.

Topographies was created by Lim during a 10-day residency in Kjerringøy, a northern village in Bodø Municipality, Norway. Through a series of photography and videography works that depicts the artist’s use of his body as a prop to showcase natural materials found along Kjerringøy’s unique coastal-alpine landscape, Lim aims to provoke his audience into examining their own views of life, mortality and nature.

Topographies will open on 22 May 2019 with a performance that will take place within the area of Telok Ayer Arts Club during the golden hour – between 6.30pm to 7.30pm. While most office workers are heading home for the day; Lim, burdened with a rock that is delicately balanced on his head, will begin his performance art piece. The public performance will start at Telok Ayer Park (near Tanjong Pagar MRT Exit G) and end off at Telok Ayer Arts Club, where he will join arts writer Christine Han in a Conversation and Q&A with the Artist from 7.30pm to 8.00pm on his experience in Kjerringøy, the performing live body, and photography in performance. This is followed by an Opening Reception from 8.00pm onwards.

All are welcome to play audience as Lim recreates, recounts and relives the ten days of tuning in to Kjerringøy’s unspoiled nature and how, using only his body and the ubiquitous phone camera, Topographies the exhibition, book and performance was formed.

Admission is free. Click here to RSVP.
