6. Immerse yourself in the old traditions of Mid-Autumn Festival at Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre

Sometimes an overdose of mooncakes and lanterns can make us forget the cultural heritage behind Mid-Autumn Festival. For its first-ever Mid-Autumn celebrations, the Singapore Chinese Culture Centre (SCCC) aims to surprise by shining the spotlight on the traditions less practiced today. Held on 15 September at the SCCC, the event takes you back to the origins of the Mid-Autumn Festival, to the myths and legends of Chang’e, Houyi, and the Jade Rabbit, retold using rod puppetry by Paper Monkey Theatre. In the role-playing activities, you can get involved in bringing these ancient stories to life too! Another highlight is the Starry Night Planetarium Show, which adds a modern twist to the tradition of moon gazing with an experiential astronomy exhibition. Also featuring engaging performances by local opera companies and Chinese music ensembles, SCCC’s Mid-Autumn event pairs an educational tribute to Chinese heritage with fun activities for the whole family.
