With the Dragon Boat Festival, or Duan Wu Festival, nearly upon us (it's falling on the 7th of June this year), we're once again faced with a whole host of dumpling selections to choose from! Whether you love your glutinous rice dumplings savoury or sweet; traditional or creative; filled with abalone, scallop, or even otah, or oozing a delectable creamy custard - there's even a Mao Shan Wang dumpling, as well as healthier options, and a halal option this year - we've got just the list for you! Read on for our picks of the Rice Dumpling Festival - we mean, Duan Wu Festival, this year.
Roasted Goose Dumpling with Golden Chestnut and Foie Gras (S$22.80), Shang Palace, Shangri-La Singapore
Celebrate tradition with a creative spin with Shang Palace’s offerings this Duan Wu. Crafted by Shang Palace’s acclaimed Chef Mok Kit Keung, who was previously from the two-Michelin-starred Shang Palace Kowloon, indulge in traditional dumplings given an innovative twist, like the Roasted Goose Dumpling with Golden Chestnut and Foie Gras. Inspired by Chef Mok’s travels to Paris, this dumpling brims with both buttery foie gras and sweet chestnuts; as well as roasted goose, pork belly, green beans, black mushrooms and peanuts.
Another new offering to try would be the Eight Treasures Dumpling with Mixed Grains (S$20.80) – it comes in a beautiful bamboo tube, and features wholesome ingredients like cordyceps flowers, red dates, wolfberries and organic quinoa.
Or indulge in the decadent Whole Abalone Dumpling with Black Truffle Paste (S$29.80), a popular offering from the previous year that features a whole 10-head abalone, this dumpling is bundled together with dried scallops, roasted duck and pork belly; as well as black truffle paste and salted egg yolk.
Shang Palace’s dumplings are ready for purchase online from 2 May 2019 to 4 June 2019. Collection and in-store purchase will be available at Shang Palace from 13 May 2019 to 7 June 2019.
