When was the last time you were excited about a new band? Thanks to The 1975, you will soon know
By Sonja Steinmetz
Meet Matthew Healy, Adam Hann, George Daniel and Ross MacDonald. The 1975, a Manchester-based quartet, is the newest addition to the alternative/indie rock scene and has just released a debut, self-titled album.
Just how good is it? Well, it entered the UK album charts straight at No. 1, which is no mean feat for a relatively unknown band.
Keeping it Real
These hardworking lads have been touring extensively in the UK, bringing their music to any audience that would listen. They soon got noticed by radio stations and moved from playing at small local clubs to opening for huge names such as Muse and The Rolling Stones.
No fancy marketing schemes and no social media gimmicks; just good old rock ‘n’ roll.
Deep Tracks
Injecting freshness to the genre, they sound like a cross between the The Killers, The Arctic Monkeys and Icona Pop. They’ve fused rock with electro and synth and paint a vivid picture of their generation with deeply personal and autobiographical lyrics.
The 1975 generously offer 16 tracks on this album but never feel indulgent. Tracks move seamlessly from one to another. Highlights include “Girls”, “The City”, “M.O.N.E.Y.” and “Settle Down”.
