Apple Unveils iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR: Here’s What You Need To Know

Get ready for the biggest and fastest iPhone yet

Less than a year after the iPhone 8 and X were released, Apple introduced not one, not two, but three new iPhones at yesterday’s big keynote event. They are the iPhone XS (pronounced “ten-S,” not like “excess”), the iPhone XS Max, and the iPhone XR.

Building on the iPhone X’s all-screen display and Face ID recognition system, the new phone models take those radical features to a whole new level. We’re talking a much larger display, with the iPhone XS Max boasting a grand 6.5 inches – yet speed isn’t compromised. Thanks to the 7-nanometer A12 Bionic chip installed in all three models, we’re getting the fastest and most durable iPhones yet.

At the keynote, Apple also introduced the Apple Watch Series 4, but we’re zeroing in on the iPhones today. So what features do the phones have, and how do they compare with one another? And when can we get our hands on them? Here are the essential things you need to know about the newest line-up of iPhones.

5. iPhone XR

The iPhone XR was Apple’s big surprise announcement at the keynote event. Despite being designed as more of a budget phone, and sporting less premium functions than its XS siblings, the XR isn’t too shabby. Here’s why the iPhone XR would make a high-quality phone for a budget.

Large, advanced display: Still bigger than the iPhone XS, the iPhone XR boasts an impressive 6.1-inch and advanced LCD display

12-megapixel camera system on the back: While the XR only has one instead of two back camera lens, you can still enjoy the awesome depth control of your Portrait mode photos to get the beautiful “bokeh” blurred effects. The XR also comes equipped with a 7-megapixel front camera.

Six beautiful colours to choose from: As mentioned, the XR comes in a greater variety of colours than the two XS models. We’re excited to see a blue, yellow and coral iPhone! Want to support a good cause with your purchase? Then the (PRODUCT)RED iPhone XR is a great choice. (PRODUCT)RED is a red finish we’ve seen on the iPhone 8 earlier this year, launched in collaboration with the HIV/AIDS awareness organisation, (RED). A portion of proceeds from iPhone XR (PRODUCT)RED models will go directly to the The Global Fund’s efforts to fight HIV and AIDS.
