2. An Empress’s Dignity (also known as The Last Empress)
Korea loves their historical romance with a tinge of fantasy, and An Empress’s Dignity is another entry in that genre that we love too! It’s set in a re-imagined South Korea, where a constitutional monarchy rules in the modern day. Veteran actress Jang Nara plays Oh Ssu-Ni, a struggling musical actress who unexpectedly marries the emperor (Shin Sung Rok). It’s hard enough having to deal with the power structures and secrets in the palace, but things really come to a head when the empress dowager is murdered. Together with the imperial family’s bodyguard (Choi Jin-hyuk), who has his own dark agenda, Ssu-Ni tries to keep the monarchy afloat.
Watch it on Viu every Thursday and Friday, 12 hours after Korea’s telecast.
