Ever wondered what people used to dabao food before the advent of tupperwares, styrofoam boxes, and bento sets? In 19th century Singapore, tingkats, also known as tiffin carriers, are a staple in Chinese households for bringing home-cooked food to work and school.

On 4 and 5 November,  from 1 to 11pm, Local Lingo Tingkat Party is set to take place at Chinatown Food Street to celebrate all things old and new in Singapore. Shop the picturesque Smith Street for locally designed stickers and pun-filled cards, geometric necklaces, healing crystal pouches, and even books for your reading pleasure.

Don’t leave without trying your hands at making bazhang (glutinous rice dumpling) bags, Good Morning drawstring bags, and five stones at the fun food sewing workshops! Local music acts like Nisha & Syaf, Desiree Orien Tay, Aeriqah, Tim De Cotta, and Joy Alexis Ng will also be performing.
