Like its name suggested — sans vowels, that is — SPRMRKT is a supermarket that combines dining and retail.

When SPRMRKT first opened its doors at McCallum Street in 2012, its concept was somewhat revolutionary in a sea of nondescript all-day brunch spots.

Fusing food, retail and art, the cafe showcased some of the finest produce and products in its cosy space, nestled in the heart of the central business district.

Like its name suggested — sans vowels, that is — it is a supermarket that combines dining and retail.

New dining experiences

Building upon this unique dining experience, the SPRMRKT family has now introduced two new additions, namely SPRMRKT Daily and SPRMRKT Kitchen & Bar.

Located along the breezy riverside at Singapore Tyler Print Institute (STPI), the double-storied space feels like home away from home. On the ground floor, you’ll find SPRMRKT Daily, a homely cafe masquerading as a grocery shop.

The ‘daily’ in its name alludes to the curated range of produce and goods sold.

Shop and feast

The ‘daily’ in its name alludes to the curated range of produce and goods sold, consisting of fresh, carefully-sourced ingredients, handcrafted products and more, each one aimed at enhancing your everyday life.

Within the treasure trove, homegrown brands also glowed in the spotlight, with the likes of good reads from BooksActually and quirky keepsakes from Supermama.

After gathering your buys, take a break at the all-day dining cafe where hearty breakfast staples like Oven Baked Eggs ($21) served with vine-ripened cherry tomatoes and toasted brioche await.

We recommend saving space for the smoothies, which include refreshing creations like Choco-Peanut Butter-Banana ($9) and Coconut-Avocado ($9).

Satiate your appetites with starters like the Smoked Hamachi.

‘Glocal’ creations

On the second floor, a different ambient welcomes diners. Ample natural light and marble decor marks the elegant space that is SPRMRKT Kitchen & Bar.

SPRMRKT’s first foray into fine dining looks promising, with an extensive menu crafted by head chef Jonathan Ong.

He describes his New American cuisine as ‘glocal’, where the dishes are globally influenced, but made with local ingredients such as Chinese sausages, kang kong (water spinach) and bok choy.

Satiate your appetites with starters like the Smoked Hamachi ($18) before proceeding to the mains. The Flat Iron Steak ($32), topped with piquant blue cheese dressing and served alongside crunchy quinoa, was particularly memorable.

To round off your meal, work your way through the Broken Apple Pie ($15), a combination of Pâte Brisée, Apple Caramel, Bourbon and Vanilla Ice Cream for a saccharine sweet ending.
