Trolltunga is worth confronting any fear of heights, as the rock sticks out into a yawning valley for an arresting view of Norway’s Ringedalsvatnet Lake
Trolltunga, Norway, is literally no walk in the park. This 10,000-year-old rock juts out of a mountain 700m in the air, with deep cracks streaking up along the cliff.
Make it to the edge of Trolltunga and you’ll be rewarded with a breath-taking view of Ringedalsvatnet Lake’s Northern side.
Trolltunga is accessible to hikers from mid-June to mid-September, by car from Odda or the city of Bergen, via national road 13. Head to the parking facility at the end of Ringedalsvatnet, and begin your climb from there.
The hike itself is another sight, with dried rivers, glacial potholes and glimpses of the Folgefonna glacier in the distance. The hike may take up to ten hours but it will be well worth the effort.
