Kingsroad in “Game of Thrones”

In popular epic series “Game of Thrones”, the Kingsroad is the longest, grandest and possibly one of the most dangerous highways in the Seven Kingdoms. It runs from Castle Black via Winterfell to the capital city of King’s Landing.

It was through here in the second season that Arya Stark, disguised as a boy, escaped from King’s Landing with Hot Pie, Gendry and others to join the Night’s Watch. Lord Eddard Stark has also proclaimed that “the sea is safer than the Kingsroad”.

In real life, this ominous-looking stretch is filmed along the gothic yet peaceful Dark Hedges of Bregagh Road in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It features beech trees planted by the noble Stuart family in the 18th century, and is safe—and free—for visitors to wander through.
