6. Fortitude Valley, Brisbane

With its grungy and offbeat rawness, Fortitude Valley has worn the name of Australia’s first dedicated “entertainment district”. But it has recently shown that “entertainment” isn’t restricted to after-dark tomfoolery; today, local musicians and international DJs alike have livened up the clubs and chic bars in the Valley.

In the day, the fashion-forward will find a haven of offerings along Ann, Winn, James and Brunswick Streets, where Australian and indie boutiques can be found. Several bars and nightclubs here are converted into charming feeding grounds by day.
