4. Slide down a live volcano

Also called ash boarding and volcano surfing, volcano boarding sounds like entertainment for insane men, but it’s a wildly popular sport in Leon, Nicaragua. Locals and visitors take to the volcano Cerro Negro (“Black Hill”), equipped with all but a wooden board, and take turns either boarding (while standing up) or sledding (seated) from the “Drop Zone” all the way down – a distance of 728m.

The wooden boards have a rope for you to cling onto so you lean back for increased speed. Unfortunately, it doesn’t do much in the way of controlling the board.
