Dress up in daydreams

#42 Fashion Revasseur

Local brand Revasseur shows off bright-coloured prints and daring silhouettes

By Cheryl Chia

When you first lay eyes on Singaporean brand Revasseur, you get the full playful effect of the collection.

Designer Gilda Su, who resided in New York previously, brings the colourful aesthetic of New York to Singapore with a pinch of her Japanese Bunka Fashion College training.

“Revasseur means daydreaming in French. A lot of my designs came about when I was spacing out or stoning,” says Gilda with a laugh.

Colours of New York

The brand, Revasseur, was started in 2011. Gilda started doing bespoke pieces for clients when she was living in New York.

“When I was in New York, I worked with many drag queens and they were always so colourful and out there,” says Gilda.

She even hung out a few times with famous transsexual icon Amanda Lepore when she was freelancing as a stylist for Patricia Fields – who worked on films such as The Devil Wears Prada.

Gilda’s Spring/Summer 2013 line Ships Ahoy! was inspired by fleet week in the USA, and features nautical stripes and colours.

Impact overseas

Revasseur also has stockists in Malaysia, Indonesia, the United States, Dubai and Japan.

“I’ve had more positive responses abroad as they are more receptive (to my designs). I hope eventually Singapore can be the same,” she says.

New Line & Upcoming

Gilda’s upcoming Autumn/Winter 2013 line entitled Save the Couch! was inspired by her dog chewing her father’s couch to shreds, and it made its debut at Seoul Fashion Week.

Gilda also intends to open a physical store on Orchard Road by the end of this year.

“The industry here has changed in the two to three years since I’ve been back. There are many big brands but if local brands can be proud of whom they are and others can respect what they do, they would eventually recognise how much work it takes,” says Gilda, who had been away from Singapore for eight-and-a-half years.
