Winner of the 2019 Oscar for Best Documentary Feature, Free Solo is a gripping record of mountaineer Alex Honnold’s attempt to climb the Yosemite’s famous El Capitan, a 900-metre, near-vertical rock… without a rope. It’s a “free solo” climb, a dangerous feat like what Tom Cruise did in Mission Impossible 2, but without cables, less theatrical, and much more terrifying. In real life, free solo climbing has led to way too many deaths, many of them from scaling that same rock that Honnold would ascend. Part biopic of Honnold, and part celebration of the human spirit and the amazing things we can achieve, this documentary will keep you on the edge of your seat in awe and inspiration.
Catch it at The Projector on 6, 9, and 14 March.
