2. Chinatown Crossings
Immerse yourself in Chinatown like you’ve never experienced before! Unlike traditional black box theatre performances, Chinatown Crossings takes you out on the bustling streets of Chinatown itself to explore the nooks and crannies of the historic district. The journey begins in front of the Chinatown Heritage Centre, where audiences will be introduced to the main character, Kunalan (played by Pavan J Singh), and, with the help of the headphones provided, get to know his story growing up in a Chinatown shophouse during the 1960s and 1970s. Strap up your best walking shoes, so you’ll be most comfortable as you follow Kunalan into old shophouses, back lanes, hawker stalls, and various buildings in Kreta Ayer and Keong Saik. Along the way, let Kunalan, his friend, the feisty Ting Ting (Sabrina Sng), and her domestic helper, Fong Cheh (Jodi Chan), weave a moving tale that will take you down memory lane. More than a tour, Chinatown Crossings is an interactive theatrical experience written by award-winning playwright Jean Tay, and blends history with personal stories inspired by real pioneers of today’s Chinatown.
