What the saga's next movie title may mean for the series

Disney has announced the title of the next film in the Star Wars saga. The eighth movie is titled Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and will be directed by Rian Johnson. The official Star Wars Twitter account also calls the new film the "next chapter of the Skywalker saga".

2. Princess Leia will be significant

Being Luke’s sister, Princess Leia Organa is highly likely to be able to wield the Force like Luke and her father. In The Return of the Jedi, Luke speaks to Leia about the Force, saying, “You have that power, too. In time you’ll learn to use it as I have. The Force is strong in my family. My father has it, I have it and my sister has it.”

But given that Carrie Fisher, the actress that has played Leia throughout the years, died in December – and since Disney has said that it will not digitally recreate her likeness for the final film – it’s unlikely that the central plot for the rest of trilogy will revolve around her.
