After 15 years, the "Home" singer is back with a reignited flame for all things local
What have you been busy with recently?
A very close friend of mine who has observed the way I work put it best: She said I’m like a barbeque. It’s like “boom”, the fire goes up and you cook everything, and then suddenly, once the job’s done, you pour cold water on it and it’s done.
Just last month I did a concert in Hong Kong and so much has happened… I was in that crazy and high-strung situation, and then suddenly, I could quickly turn it off. So the last two weeks have been quite pleasant – I started baking. So it’s quite extreme! I can gear up and down pretty fast.
Is baking your new hobby? What did you cook up?
I’ve been baking for a long time, but I started out as a really horrible baker! Everything would go wrong and the cookies would get burnt or soft. But I find it really therapeutic and relaxing, so I’m totally a home baker.
[I bake] when I feel I need to give myself and other people a treat. I like to bake very hearty and basic things like cookies and butter cakes and pound cakes. I don’t like anything too fancy.
