Look away, Liverpool fans, league leader Chelsea is set to visit Anfield and to inflict more pain on Brendan Rodgers’ struggling Liverpool
Last weekend’s derby didn’t turn out too badly, did it? It was everything we’ve always wanted in a football match – a goal, a red card, fantastic chances, brilliant goalkeeping, crunching challenges, suspense, drama and controversy, all in one game.
This weekend sees another Red vs Blue battle and, if last week’s big match was anything to go by, we’re in for yet another treat this time round.
The Big Match:
Liverpool vs Chelsea
Look away, Liverpool fans. The Reds are in rather poor form at the moment; they are fresh off a disappointing defeat against rejuvenated Newcastle and they have failed to score in three of their last five matches.
Mario Balotelli is still making the news for the wrong reasons and Brendan Rodgers is facing the wrath of Liverpool fans (at least from what I notice in the twitter-verse).
Even the consolation of being 7th (that’s not too bad, especially if you ask any Manchester United fan) isn’t worth shouting about. And, what’s worse, league leader Chelsea is set to visit.
Now, I’m sure you remember what happened in this fixture last season. No? Does the Steven Gerrard slip ring a bell?
Yes, that’s right. This was the match in which Liverpool lost the impetus of its title charge as Chelsea blew the title race wide open with a 2-0 win, no thanks to the Reds’ talisman, Stevie G.
The signs are all pointing to a Blue day at Anfield but you never know in football. A good result here could very well kick-start Liverpool’s season but that looks highly unlikely at this moment.
Prediction: Liverpool 1-3 Chelsea
Other fixtures:
Manchester United vs Crystal Palace
An injury-hit United need to bounce back this week, and Crystal Palace look set to suffer as Louis van Gaal’s men try to recover from the Manchester derby defeat.
Prediction: Manchester Utd 3-1 Crystal Palace
Queens Park Rangers vs Manchester City
Manchester City returned to winning ways last week but the team looked far from comfortable at times.
Still, the reigning Premier League champions should emerge victorious no matter how difficult Queens Park Rangers tries to be.
Prediction: QPR 1-2 Manchester City
Swansea vs Arsenal
Imagine where Arsenal would be in the Premier League table had Alexis Sanchez chosen to join another club.
So far, the Chilean is single-handedly carrying the Gunners but I do expect the likes of Wilfried Bony and Gylfi Sigurdsson to cause the Arsenal defence some trouble.
Prediction: Swansea 1-1 Arsenal
