Nostalgic eye candy for you to fondly fawn over

Remember the yesteryears of rushing home after school to catch your favourite sitcom or game show? While some of our favourite actors are still pretty active today, many of us still miss the “golden” age of the 90s in Singapore television.

1. Chew Chor Meng

Also known by his Mandarin name Zhou Chuming, Chew was the winner of “Star Search” in 1990, launching him into a career of acting. In 2004, Chew was awarded the All Time Favourite Artiste Award in the Star Awards, and even gained popularity across the causeway as he was voted the Most Popular MediaCorp Male Artiste in Malaysia.

His first major role was Hong San in the 1995 “The Teochew Family”. During the late-90s to early-2000s, he became an icon with his role as Jacky Chang, aka Ah Bee, a salesman with a penchant for lobang (good opportunities) in the six-season Chinese sitcom “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”.

Where he is now

Now a familiar household name, Chew has moved into hosting shows and events, including collaborations with programmes from Taiwan and China. Last year, he released an autobiography titled “Stages of Life”, detailing his life story from growing up with an abusive father to coming to terms with an incurable motor neuron illness, Kennedy’s disease.

He also has two daughters aged 12 and 14 with his wife, investment relations director Deon Tan.
