6. ACM presents Singapore’s Exhibition on The Galleon Trade Between Mexico and the Philippines

From 16 November 2023 to 17 March 2024, the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) is presenting Manila Galleon: From Asia to the Americas, Singapore’s inaugural expansive exhibition that traces the historical trade routes across the Pacific, linking Asia to the Americas and Europe. This special showcase delves into the movement of people, goods, and ideas through the Philippines and Mexico, illuminating a distinctive cultural and artistic heritage shared across seemingly distant regions.

Check out a collection of 140 exquisite objects spanning from the 16th to the 20th century. These items, many of which are rare and significant, are loaned from esteemed partners and will be showcased in Singapore for the first time. They narrate tales of artists, traders, and consumers of that era, shedding light on the often overlooked connections and influences behind goods that have become commonplace today. Moreover, the exhibition emphasizes Singapore’s unique blend of cultures and the profound impact of port cities on global dynamics.

The Manila Galleon exhibition will be accompanied by a range of digital and on-site programs, curator-led tours, and weekend festivals designed for individuals of all backgrounds, abilities, and ages.

Asian Civilisations Museum is located at 1 Empress Pl, Singapore 179555.
