Celebrate the rich heritage of the Chinatown Street Market at the inaugural Five-footway Festival which harks back to the precinct’s beginnings and recreates the hawking scenes of yesteryears.
Organised by the Chinatown Business Association, this event marks the official launch of the refurbished Chinatown Street Market and will take you on a walk down memory lane with old-school games like hopscotch and chapteh; popular local street food such as satay, chendol, roasted chestnuts and rickshaw noodles; and cultural activities like Chinese opera performances and calligraphy writing. Those in need of a hair trim can even visit the streetside barber. If you’re looking to bring home souvenirs, collectibles such as waxed paper umbrellas and straw fans, which were common household items in the past, will be on sale as well!
Foodie trails and guided tours will also be available to take visitors along a journey filled with snacks from the past or that provide deeper insights into historical Chinatown.
