1. Experience history coming to life
Many view history as a dry and stuffy subject, one that is confined to the boundaries of schools and textbooks. However, Singapore’s history will come to life in a different way with The Future of Our Pasts Festival (TFOOPFest), a month-long festival that explores lesser-known stories of communities and places of the past and present, reimagined through various artistic mediums.
Organised by Yale-NUS in conjunction with the Singapore Bicentennial, TFOOPFest showcase eleven projects by students and recent graduates from different tertiary institutions, and invites vistors to engage with history and the future through interactive installations, films, music performances, panel discussions, and more.
Some of the highlights of the festival would be Remembering Sungei (20 Feb – 3 Mar), which explores heritage and value through the referenced Sungei Thieves Market; Project IDIOM (1-10 Mar), which aims to showcase and honour local Classical music through a series of concerts; and Factory (Super)Women (23-24 Feb), a documentary that uncovers the bittersweet memories and experiences of factory workers in the 70s-80s.
