The Mid-Autumn lanterns are lighting up across Singapore this weekend, bringing a festive glow to the city.

And while you’re out soaking up the celebrations, why not make a little time for some shopping too?

1. Experience a Glowing Mid-Autumn at Gardens by the Bay

Gardens by the Bay switches on its Mid-Autumn celebrations this Saturday, transforming several of its most recognisable spaces with eight illuminated lantern installations.

This year’s festival introduces Fenbao, an original character created by Singaporean creative Lim Sau Hoong, alongside Ah Ken, Chiu Chiu, Pineapple Boy and futuristic computer bee Bee Nini.

Rather than simply recreating familiar Mid-Autumn legends, the installations take a more imaginative approach, weaving the characters through colourful fantasy landscapes across Golden Garden, Supertree Grove and the surrounding areas.

Saturday’s opening night also features an LED Lion Dance at 8.30pm at Supertree Grove Lawn. Families visiting on Sunday can add a craft session, with activities including DIY rabbit lanterns, Bunny Buddy figurines, and kaleidoscopes, all available from S$12 to S$13.

The outdoor lantern displays remain free, making this one of the easiest family-friendly evening outings this weekend.

2. Rediscover the Singapore River at Its Biggest Festival

The Singapore River Festival returns for its 10th edition from 11 to 20 September 2026, bringing 10 days of celebrations across Boat Quay, Clarke Quay and Robertson Quay.

Each stretch of the river takes on its own personality. At Boat Quay, the Entertainment Zone comes alive with performances, musical processions and The River Echo Chambers, an eight-minute projection experience that transforms the heritage shophouses along the riverfront.

Over at Clarke Quay, the Expression Zone turns up the energy with dance performances, acrobatics, and interactive light-and-sound installations. Matcha fans can also make a stop at Matcha Central, while Acai Social puts a playful spin on nightlife with açaí and pop music at The Riverhouse.

Further upstream, Robertson Quay offers a more laid-back experience with its Lifestyle & Wellness Zone, featuring relaxing riverside soundscapes, an outdoor screening of How to Train Your Dragon and the Riverview Social Market.

For those looking to explore the precinct beyond the usual festival activities, there are also immersive experiences such as the special MONOPOLY: HIDDEN Singapore experience and guided heritage activities.

3. Mr D.I.Y. Brings ‘Bersama Satu Bazaar 2026’ to Johor

If you are considering crossing the Causeway this weekend, MR D.I.Y.’s Bersama Satu Bazaar 2026 gives you another reason to head to Johor Bahru.

Making its Johor debut, the three-day event takes over the carpark at Angsana Johor Bahru Mall with more than 100 food and lifestyle booths.

Come hungry. Jalan Viral focuses on local food vendors and trending bites, while Jalan DIY combines shopping for household essentials with snacks and drinks. Families can head towards Jalan Fun for games, activities and cultural performances.

MR D.I.Y. Club members can unlock additional benefits through the brand’s app, including access to its member lounge and opportunities to redeem limited-edition merchandise by completing event missions.

The official event hours extend until midnight, so this could work particularly well as an evening stop after a day of shopping or eating around JB.

4. Catch Regina Song and Brb. Live for Free at Homegrown 2026

Singapore’s homegrown music scene takes over Paya Lebar Quarter this weekend with three days of free live performances.

HOMEGROWN returns for its third edition with Singapore artists spanning indie pop, alternative rock and contemporary R&B, including two particularly recognisable headliners: brb. and Regina Song.

Saturday’s programme brings together brb., Forests, Ice Cream Sundays, Dominic Chin, RINES, Khim Ng and TP Music Vox, while Regina Song closes out Sunday’s programme alongside acts including 10pm Noise Complaint, Aaron Bunac, Izzathy Halil and Gail Belmonte.

For Regina Song, the appearance comes after the success of the cutest pair, which topped Spotify’s Global Viral chart. HOMEGROWN also gives emerging musicians a platform through HOMEGROWN Rising, its youth band competition.

It is an easy festival to drop into without committing to an expensive ticket, and the programmes on Saturday and Sunday begin in the afternoon and continue into the evening.

5. Celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival at Jurong Point’s Festive Fair

Mid-Autumn Festival is just around the corner, and Jurong Point is getting into the festive spirit with its Mid-Autumn Fair, happening from 7 to 25 September 2026 at JP1 Level 1 Centre Stage.

Mooncake lovers can look forward to a tempting selection of baked and snowskin mooncakes from popular hotels and speciality bakeries, including Goodwood Park Hotel, Home’s Favourite, Mdm Ling Bakery, Peach Garden, SunnyHills and Golden Moments, among others. Whether you’re looking for traditional flavours or something a little different, there’ll be plenty to browse for your festive gatherings.

Adding to the celebrations is a Mid-Autumn Artisan Market, taking place from 7 to 20 September along the JP1 Walkway near Decathlon. The market brings together handcrafted arts, crafts and unique lifestyle products, making it a nice spot to pick up a few festive finds or gifts while you’re there.

With mooncakes to browse and festive activities happening throughout the fair, Jurong Point makes for an easy weekend stop to get into the Mid-Autumn mood.
