3. Mars: The Red Mirror
This expansive exhibition represents the most extensive historical and cultural exposition on Mars ever brought to Singapore, encompassing 12,000 years of Mars-related cultural history through art, history, and science, ranging from ancient eras to the contemporary period.
Presented jointly by the ArtScience Museum and the Centre of Contemporary Culture Barcelona (CCCB) and curated by Juan Insua, “Mars: The Red Mirror” arrives at a pivotal juncture in history, coinciding with humanity’s profound fascination with the Red Planet and the ongoing activity of three rovers on Mars. Considering Mars as a reflective mirror, metaphorical symbol, and source of inspiration, the exhibition interlaces captivating narratives drawn from visionary scientists, contemporary experts, filmmakers, authors, and modern artists. It aims to explore the portrayals of Mars across diverse cultures, spanning from ancient Greece to Asia while delving into scientific breakthroughs associated with the planet and its moons.
Featuring an extensive collection of over 300 items, including rare scientific manuscripts, sculptures, historical artefacts, films, contemporary artworks, and an authentic Martian meteorite, the exhibition promises a comprehensive exploration of Mars’ multifaceted significance throughout history.
Mars: The Red Mirror will run until 7 April 2024. Tickets are available at all Marina Bay Sands box offices and online.
