Coffee and more at JBM

One Raffles Place Mall sees a new restaurant with the opening of JBM Coffee & Dining

One Raffles Mall has seen a bright and airy facelift with stores such as H&M opening in the shopping centre. The food wing is not neglected either, with the addition of JBM Coffee & Dining.

The menu features rustic French and Italian cuisine by Chef Chamara Fonseka, who was previously with Au Petit Salut and Covelli. The coffee creations are helmed by Shaw Shyne Wei who was the first runner-up at Singapore’s National Latte Art Championship 2014. Talk about fancy!

JBM - Lil' Froggy
Lil’ Froggy

Lunchtime is quite busy for JBM with the business crowd in the area. And when we were there, business was bustling! The food names reflect the young team with playful menu names such as Lil’ Froggy ($24). It is lightly seasoned seared frog legs atop a bed of butter lettuce. It also comes with a mini cocotte of handmade mushroom ravioli in veal jus.

The Green Knight ($8) is a zucchini soup with seaweed, croutons, and a drizzling of cream for richness. It is also a great starter for a rainy day with its comforting quality. The Pork Terrine ($15) is homemade and comes with three slices of brioche coated with grape mustard seeds. The mustard seeds have a heady flavour from the soaking in grapes, giving it a sweeter flavour.

JBM - Beef out of the Cubes
Beef out of the Cubes

I loved the Beef Outside the Cubes ($24), essentially grain-fed tenderloin cut into cubes, grilled medium-rare, and tossed in a mushroom sauce. It comes with either mashed or French fries. A far cry from the tough and chewy beef cubes used in Chinese cooking, the tenderloin cubes are medium-rare, chewy, and juicy. I would advise picking the mashed potatoes since they go oh-so-well with the mushroom sauce and the beef jus.

You should also try the Sassy Cassoulet ($32) if you like beans. This French stew features white beans and assorted seafood, which can be shared by two. And what’s a visit to JBM without coffee? The JBM Espresso Crème Brulee ($8) is a dessert and beverage rolled into one with a shot of espresso topped with crème brulee. They also do a mean piccolo.

People in the suit industry, you might want to take note.
