Experience authentic charcoal-fired Brazilian churrascaria at this al fresco restaurant
The last time I saw so much grilled meat making its rounds, which caused me to salivate profusely, I was at a friend’s barbecue.
Being amateurs, we occasionally made the mistake of overcooking the good cuts or simply failed to season the meat enough.
That’s why I was pleased to be at Brazilian churrascaria Carne & Caipirinha, where I could relax and be served perfectly-grilled slices of premium meat.
Authentic Brazilian Grill
Priding itself on serving authentic Rodizio-style cuisine — basically an all-you-can-eat service where waiters move around with skewers and slice them onto your plate — the restaurant directly imports all its beef and chicken from Brazil.
Chef Brito, who is a gaucho (traditional cowboy) himself, leads the team in the kitchen. Together, they have a
collective experience of over 70 years in Brazilian cuisine.
If you like a smoky flavour in your grilled meat, you’ll take delight in knowing that Carne & Caipirinha is the only Brazilian churrascaria in Singapore that uses charcoal fire for roasting its quality meats.
All You Can Eat
Located in the up and coming foodie enclave of Sunset Lane, Carne & Caipirinha features a complete al fresco dining area that is, thankfully, well ventilated by large ceiling fans. It seems like my initial worry of smelling like grilled meat was unfounded.
For the price of $39.90 during Happy Hour (UP$49.90), you could stuff yourself silly with side dishes from the buffet line as well as all the Rodizio-style meats that you can eat.
From the buffet spread, I particularly enjoyed the feijoada, a traditional Brazilian Portuguese stew of beans with pork — a must-try if you’re looking for something hearty but not overly rich.
Gather Your Carnivorous Troops for a Meat Feast
Enjoy Brazil’s national cocktail, Caipirinha, right here! It is made with cachaça (sugar cane hard liquor), sugar and lime.
While the sides are tasty, keep in mind that the grilled meats are worth all the stomach space that you have.
I was curious to try the beef hump, which is a rare cut that is only found in the humped Brazilian cattle known as zebu. It turned out to be one of the most tender slices of beef that I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating.
The meat had a texture similar to that of pulled pork, and was flavourful to boot.
My other favourites included the buttery fish, the beef rump cap and the chicken fillet wrapped in bacon. The flavours of the lamb were also robust but could come off as gamey for some.
While there weren’t desserts on the menu, be sure to have some grilled pineapple sliced for you. The caramelised sweetness and charred edges of the fruit do wonders to balance out the heavy meat taste.
For drinks, consider the eponymous Caipirinha ($12), Brazil’s national cocktail, which was a delight.
