Sip and nibble your way to caffeine (and dessert) heaven at The Affogato Lounge, where creativity and coffee come together in a perfect balance.
We all love a good strong cuppa in the morning, or paired with a sweet treat at tea time – perhaps even moreso for the first option given that so many of us in Singapore are huge workaholics! If you love both coffee and your desserts, you’ve likely heard of The Affogato Bar at Cluny Court – the first standalone coffee bar in Asia to specialise in affogato desserts and innovative coffee brews. Well, The Affogato Group has recently launched its latest concept, The Affogato Lounge at KēSa House, situated along Keong Saik Road.
Treat yourself to an array of caffeine-heady affogato desserts, including The Affogato Group’s first ever Asian-inspired affogato dessert – Coco Black, a pulut hitam affogato; savour the wonderful flavour of Empire, the specialty espresso blend from Ozone Roaster that is flown in fresh from New Zealand; sip on creative coffee tipples and fragrant brews from locally-owned Pryce Tea, or munch on some equally delectable savouries.
Don’t miss out on the delicious and creative Coco Black ($17), the uniquely Singaporean affogato! The pulut hitam (black glutinuous rice) affogato is served with chunks of fragrant and pillowy-soft kaya bread pudding, fresh coconut ice cream and Empire coffee. A blend of kopitiam nostalgia and cafe-esque elegance, with the perfect balance of sweet, aromatic and caffeine-bitter notes, this is the one dessert you definitely have to order when coming to the Affogato Lounge!
For something a little sweeter, go for the Fleur de Caramel ($15) or Crème de la Malt ($14). The former is a wonderful sweet-and-salty combination of salted caramel ice cream, dark cacao bits and 55% chocolate, drizzled over with deliciously gooey salted caramel and served with a double shot of Empire – where the sweet notes of chocolate and caramel in the espresso meld well with the dessert. In the latter, malted milk ice cream, malted chocolate balls and chunks of honeycomb are served with a double shot of Empire – here, you can taste the lovely berry and caramel notes in the coffee!
Nutella lovers would definitely enjoy The Hazelnette (S$16), a rich choco-nutty concoction of smooth hazelnut ice cream, a crunchy noisette, 55% chocolate, and a double shot of Empire! It was definitely one of our favourite desserts!
Our top pick, however, has to go to The Trilogy ($16), a must-try if you are a chocolate-lover like us! With a scoop of 70% dark chocolate sorbet, wonderfully rich nuggets of caramel blanc and single origin dark cocoa, served with Fitzroy, a brew redolent with floral and fruit notes; this sent us to chocolate paradise – we couldn’t get enough.
Pair your desserts with The Affogato Lounge’s lovely cocktail selection; wound through with coffee, tea and marmalade – a refreshing and creative take!
We absolutely fell in love with Ashen (S$20), a heady combination of Pryce Tea’s Collyer Quay (a blend of Lapsang Souchong and Assam black tea) citrus and bourbon whiskey. Served with star anise torched right at the very end, this drink is both smoky and refreshing, addictively so.
For something more playful, try Auburn (S$20): a gin-based sour cocktail, mixed with Vanda Miss Joaquim, a tie guan yin and orchid petal blend that lends a calming and relaxing floral note to the drink. A wonderful balance of sweet, sour and floral notes, with a gorgeous pink hue to boot!
If you’d like something warm and more filling before dessert and drinks, don’t miss out on the selection of paninis, bowls and baked quiches available! We recommend the Blue Swimmer Crab Quiche ($13), hearty and full of savoury crab meat slivers; as well as the Italian Couscous Tuna Bowl ($15), fresh, tangy, and absolutely delicious – plus a balanced meal with protein, veggies and carbs!
