Restaurant Review: Wooloomooloo Steakhouse Serves Possibly The Best Steak In Town

Don’t you skip the sides!

The hunt for the best steak is not a walk in the park. In fact, a true blue foodie may be disheartened by a fair share of lengthy trips, lacklustre service or worse – wasted calories during this culinary voyage.

To avoid life’s biggest disappointment,  you’d best be heading to Wooloomooloo Steakhouse for your carnivorous fix.

Just a stone’s throw away from City Hall MRT station,  the 140-seater restaurant is rivalled to have the best view in town to catch seasonal events such as the F1 night race and New Year’s firework display in the comforts of its elegant abode. From Valentine’s Day to birthday parties, the restaurant is truly the perfect venue for all occasions.

While dishes are aplenty at Wooloomooloo, you can’t leave without trying its meaty signatures that gave its repute of a steakhouse, starting with the USDA Prime Rib Eye ($88/12oz; $117/16oz) that will surely quell your bloodlust. Cooked to your bidding, we had our’s medium rare which brought out the true flavour of the grain-fed meat, while still staying seductively succulent. If you must, douse the meat with four sauces of peppercorn, mushroom, red wine madeira and au jus to make your ribeye more memorable.

Equally satisfying, yet more indulgent is the Beef Wellington ($78). Encased in a crisp buttery puff pastry, an Australian fillet mignon is paired with Parma ham, mushroom duxelle and foie gras for a union of textures and flavours that will surely make the taste buds sing. First hinted by its perfect shade of pink, the star component being the fillet mignon still shines in its own right of perfect medium doneness. We suggest drowning the wellington in au jus sauce to amplify the flavours.

And what better way to complement your meats than with the three delightful sides of  Truffle Mac & Cheese ($18), Creamy Spinach ($16) Wild Mushrooms ($14)! And if you have to pick just one, then zero in on gooey goodness of the mac & cheese!

On days when meat is not on the agenda, a visit to Wooloomooloo is still warranted with its Mootini Nights, available from Mondays to Fridays, 5pm to 8pm, where all martinis 1-for-1 with complimentary steak sliders!
