Not bad for the full Wolfgang experience
They say it’s better to be late than never.
So here we are, strolling into Wolfgang Steakhouse, several months since its launch to finally see what the fuss is all about. Coincidentally, it is the same time the New York restaurant has rolled out its brand new lunch set menu, featuring the spoils of seafood dishes and its iconic meaty delights.
It’s a different world when dining at Wolfgang Steakhouse in the day. Thanks to its floor-to-ceiling windows, the masculine neo-classical edges of walnut wood flooring and hanging alabaster chandeliers are smoothened out by rays of cheery sunshine. The Robertson Quay’s canal is in full view, further complemented by the smiles of the on-duty servers, normally masked by dim ambient lighting during dinner service.
The Wolfgang Experience set menu – that’s what they’re calling it. Fittingly so, seeing that the meal comprises of usual steakhouse suspects such as seafood starters and cheese-sprinkled salads, before moving on to the real stars of the show – the steaks.
Seafood Taster
There isn’t a fixed price for the lunch sets as they fluctuate according to your selected entrees. For an authentic Wolfgang experience, we implore you to order the heftier options of either USDA Prime Sirloin Steak ($80) or USDA Prime Rib Eye Steak ($90). For those ordering the likes of Chicken Parmigiana ($55) and Loco Moco ($55), let’s all assume that it is your umpteenth time dining at Wolfgang Steakhouse. Did we also mention that Wolfgang Steakhouse is a steakhouse, yes?
Your Wolfgang experience begins with a Seafood Taster, featuring tuna tartare, lobster salad and a single jumbo shrimp cocktail. With its oceanic offerings reflecting a notable degree of freshness, the sampler is indeed a refreshing kick-off to the indulgent meal. Next comes a choice between a choice of salad or soup. We opted for the latter which was a heartwarming, but salty, potato leek soup.
USDA Prime Rib Eye Steak ($90 with set)
After our unfinished soup was cleared, the stars of the USDA Prime Sirloin Steak and USDA Prime Rib Eye Steak were brought and laid out on the white-linen-covered table. Cooked medium rare, the ribeye was more up our alley with its buttery tenderness and richer fat content – a proof of its 28-day dry-aged process. We gave the side eye to the one who ordered the chicken dish.
Each entree comes with two sides
A word of advice: You may need to properly compartmentalise your stomach space for not only the entree’s massive portion, but also the two complementary sides of either mashed potatoes, caramelised onions, cream corn, cream spinach, french fries and broccoli. Our favourites are the creamy mashed potatoes and sweet cream corn.
The experience then concludes with the dessert of the day (we had a decent tiramisu). Tea or coffee after.
So is the Wolfgang Experience set lunch worth the $90 price tag? We say yes, if it’s your virgin visit to the steakhouse. As compared to the ala carte Rib Eye Steak that sets you back $118, the set lunch allows you to sample on both the prized steaks and other delights, which makes for a well-rounded Wolfgang experience.
P.S: Sharing is not allowed. If one person orders the lunch set, everyone has to order the lunch set at the table. Hmmph.
